If you want to get a jump start on the campaign though, you will need to pre-order (only the digital pre-order is eligible for early campaign access). And it might benefit all or most players to do so. Playing the campaign first is usually recommended. If for nothing else, because you can experience the story undistracted. But there’s a better reason to play the campaign before the multiplayer mode. And that’s the chance to familiarize yourself with new weapons and gear. As well as any other new features or changes that might pop up in multiplayer. This can give you an advantage over other players who haven’t tested things out before running in guns blazing against others.
If you pre-order, you can play the Modern Warfare II campaign a week early
So how much of an advantage will you get? Well that depends. You won’t necessarily have an advantage unless you make use of the knowledge you acquire from familiarizing yourself with the game. If you fit that category of player though, you can play the campaign for Modern Warfare II a week early, starting on October 20. This is plenty of time for most players to finish the campaign’s story before the official release of the full game (which includes multiplayer) on October 28. Chances are you can finish it in a day if you play straight through without doing much else. And assuming the runtime of the campaign is the same or similar to the original 2009 release, players should expect it to last around 5-6 hours. A bit longer if you take your time through each mission. The point is, if you plan to play multiplayer, we’d highly recommend pre-ordering the game to get campaign early access. Because having a leg up usually never hurts. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II will launch on October 28 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
