The display is also now an always-on-display, making it easier to see things at a glance. Always-on-displays have been a common thing in smartwatches for years now. But this is another Fitbit first. Usually this has a significant impact on battery life. And that doesn’t change here. Fitbit does state that if you use the always-on-display feature, you won’t get the typical 7-day battery life that Fitbit trackers normally provide.
The Fitbit Charge 5 OLED display is twice as bright as the Charge 4 display
In addition to the AOD and the full-color OLED panel, or rather because of the OLED panel, the display on the Charge 5 is noticeably brighter. According to Fitbit, the Charge 5 display is twice as bright as the display on the Charge 4. Whether you live in a primarily sunny state or you’re simply exercising outside more on sunny days, the increase in brightness will make it easier to see your stats, the time, or anything else the display could possibly show you. Alongside those improvements, the Charge 5 is slimmer than the Charge 4 as well. About 10% thinner than the Charge 4 by comparison. Plus, there’s now stainless steel side panels on both the left and right sides of the tracker body, which are used for the ECG and EDA sensors. The EDA sensor was first introduced with the Fitbit Sense smartwatch. And allows users to measure their body’s stress responses. By touching the side of the sensor, it can detect if there’s a change in the sweat glands in your fingers and then feed that data back to you.
You get 6 months of Fitbit Premium for free
If you decide to buy the Fitbit Charge 5, you get 6 months free of Fitbit Premium. Which includes everything from guided workouts to actionable guidance on how to best proceed for improved health from one day to the next. Even with this though, it’s still worth considering that the Charge 5 is $180. Whereas something like the Galaxy Watch 4 in the 40mm starts at $230.
